I don't know about these colors being bland, Island Blooms and Rosy Posies were pretty colorful when I saw them in person during the preview, and Mocha Rouge, Floral Nightingale, and Tea Garden from fall and winter are pretty sedate. I kind of like that they are releasing spring patterns for the Barcelona and English Meadow crowd.
Oh, and Camellia has a black background. With the white and soft grays, I think it will be really popular!
I talked to one of the associates at my local VB signature store. Some of the stuff that is retiring is getting a re-vamp and then getting re-released. Kind of like the old vs new 100 handbag and the old style vs new style regular tote (I have both so can outline the design improvements if anyone is interested).
The only one that I know anything about from the current crop of retired pieces is the Brush and Pencil. The current Brush and Pencil is "flat" and so is pretty slim in depth. The new Brush and Pencil is about the same size, but will have a triangular profile when you look at it side-on, so that if you set it on a surface, it will stand up with the zipper size up (kind of closer in profile to the slim case). If I find out anything about the new pieces, I'll post here.
Anonymous #4 here again ... Here are the differences between the "old" tote and current tote. I won't say "new" tote because the tote isn't being retired or restyled this year, but was restyled around 2009 or so. I have the "old" tote in Pink Elephant and Botanica and the current style tote in Ellie Blue and Floral Nightingale.
Both totes are the same size, 11.75" x 13.5" x 4", and both have flat straps (non-quilted) with a 12" strap drop. The outside design is also the same, with the main pattern on the outside and a 3" border pattern on the top of the bag. The two differences are the closure and the inside pockets. The closure is slightly different, the new style has a tortoise-shell toggle while the old style has a cloth-covered button in the tote pattern. Both have a loop of fabric to pull over the button/toggle. The old style tote has a single "flap" style pocket that is 7" long and 6" deep and quilted, but is only sewn at the top and so hangs free inside the tote. The current style tote has three slip pockets on the inside on one side of the tote. These pockets aren't quilted, so they lay flat, and are sewn into the side so they don't flop around. The pockets from left to right are 4", 5", and 4" wide, and all are 5" deep.
If anyone is really interested in the 100 handbag differences I can post those too.
Camellia is a Spring 2012 color? I have been carrying a Camellia bag since last summer, and I was told at the Vera store that is was a Winter 2011 test color. Interesting....
Yep, Camellia is a Spring 2012 color. They did the preview at the end of July/beginning of August to test the colors, but they wont be officially coming out until Jaunary 19th. I picked up a piece in Island Blooms during the preview.
